Wolf Trap
1551 Trap Road, Vienna, VA 22182
We adore the Wolf Trap. Or more specifically here, the Filene Center. This amazing music venue attracts some big acts, from Kelly Clarkson to Jackson Browne to the Gipsy Kings, they’ve got it all. It’s an outdoor amphitheater built from pine and fir; an ideal place to see a show when the weather’s nice (which explains why there are over 80 well-attended performances every summer). When the weather takes a turn—well, that’s what The Barns at Wolf Trap are for.
The Barns are a great place to see performers in a more intimate venue, and yes, it’s composed of two refurbished 18th century barns.
Angelika at Mosaic
2910 District Avenue, Fairfax, VA 22031
The whole point of the Mosaic center in Fairfax is to create opportunities for authentic community engagement—a goal we at Halstead Square closely identify with (so yes, we’re slightly biased).
Head to the Angelika Film Center and Cafe inside the Mosaic center to watch more than your average blockbuster. Enjoy high quality independent, art, and specialty films from a plush seat. After your film, dine out at Cava Mezze grill or grab pizza at Matchbox, and go for a stroll through Strawberry Park with your friends or family.
George Mason University’s Center for the Arts
4373 Mason Pond Dr., Fairfax, VA 22030
George Mason University’s Center for the Arts attracts some of the greatest classical, jazz, opera, world music, dance, and of course, theatrical performances in the world—and we’re super glad we live this close to the cultural hub. Not only are there established performers, but a good mix of upcoming talented student work as well. Check the calendar for upcoming events, which include everything from the Beijing Circus to classic Shakespeare.
Epicure Cafe
11104 Lee Highway, Fairfax, VA 22030
Epicure Cafe is a one-of-a-kind place. It’s a perfect blend of restaurant and music venue—hard to find a place where both are at their best. Check out the open mic night on Mondays and Thursdays, hang with the locals during Epicure Happy Hour (weekdays 5-7p.m.), and explore Epicure’s free library. The crowd is young, thanks to the proximity of GMU, and it’s never dull.
