If you're in the vicinity of downtown Fairfax this weekend and you smell the sweet scent of chocolate in the air, that can only mean one thing: You're close to the Fairfax Chocolate Lover's Festival! A Fairfax tradition since 1993, this festival is held annually on the first full weekend of February, bringing with it three full days of chocolate-centric events.
This year, the festival takes place Friday, Feb. 2 through Sunday, Feb. 4. The event will kick off on Friday with a Liquid Chocolate Tent, which will draw a crowd with the promise of chocolate in liquid form — think chocolate soda, chocolate wine, chocolate beer, hot chocolate, and much more. Then, on Saturday and Sunday, chocolate lovers can partake in everything from a pancake breakfast and a puppet show to cupcake workshops and a "cake walk." The festival is highlighted by two events in particular: the Chocolate Challenge (a juried chocolate-themed bake-off) and the Taste of Chocolate (an over-the-top bake sale featuring the sweets of local bakeries and chocolatiers).
The Fairfax Chocolate Lover's Festival takes place at various venues around downtown Fairfax, and you can even hop aboard The Chocolate Express for free shuttle service between venues!
